*Initiative 71 was a voter-approved ballot measure in Washington, D.C., that legalized the recreational use of cannabis. *Initiative 81, formally known as the “Entheogenic Plant and Fungus Policy Act of 2020,” is a voter-approved ballot initiative in Washington, D.C. It was passed on November 3, 2020, with the support of 76% of voters and went into effect on March 16, 2021. The initiative directs law enforcement to make the non-commercial cultivation, distribution, possession, and use of entheogenic plants and fungi, such as psilocybin mushrooms and ayahuasca, among the lowest law enforcement priorities . This effectively decriminalizes the use of these substances in D.C., although it does not change their legal status.
